The process of wire or cable management involves organizing the cables, wires and other accessories that supply power to multiple devices in your home or office and ensuring that the wires and cables don’t get tangled, bent or become a repository for dust and debris. Additionally, when repairs have to be carried out, a set of disorganized wires and cables can mean a loss of time and effort for the technicians and consequent raising of repair costs. Hence a good set of cable ties, desk grommets and wire management sleeves which serve to segregate the different sections, bundle the cables together so that they don’t trail on the floor and pass through your work-desk or counter-tops smoothly without danger of getting frayed or split, makes the working area look efficient, neat and organized.

Grommets: These are simple devices that fit into the hole in your desk or counter made for wires to pass through. They line the hole and cover the sharp edge so that wires do not get damaged. Grommets can also be used on printers and copiers to cover the paper slot and ensure that the copies emerge easily and smoothly. Floor grommets can be installed to manage wires for standard lamps, air-conditioning units and other equipment. Grommets come in different shape and sizes with or without flip tops which can be kept shut when the grommet is not in use. Materials used range from all metals with protective coatings, different textures and finishes, to wood and plastic. Plastic is the most preferred material since it is hardy, requires little maintenance and also does not rust, corrode or suffer wear and tear due to exposure to moisture. Plastic is also easy to clean and plastic grommets being usually mass-produced are easy to replace.

Cable ties: These small plastic, metal or fabric straps are the best solution for organizing a bunch of loose wires so that they don’t pose a danger to people walking around the home or office, keep the wires dust and debris free and also allow repair technicians to quickly identify the correct wire for their work. They have one end tapered and serrated with teeth while the other end has a locking tab. The serrated end passes through the tab and is pulled tight and locked into place. Plastic cable ties are durable and efficient.

Wire management sleeves: these are plain or braided lengths of flexible tube or hose which is split down the middle so that the wires can be gathered into it. These sleeves are excellent for keeping your wires neatly confined and give a neat and organized look to your office or home.

With the help of the above three devices, it’s possible to organize your home entertainment center or office space and give it a neat and uncluttered look.
