Are You Paying Attention To What Your Skin Needs?

Submitted by: Jonathan Tan

It’s interesting how some of us scramble at the sight of a wrinkle or rage at the sudden presence of a pimple. But then we fail to realize that there must be something we may not be doing right on a daily basis, until it compounds into a skin disaster.

If you want to keep these issues at bay, here are some things that you might want to put your attention to.

You are what you eat

Eating healthy may be an advice that has been given out far too many times that we tend to forget how important it is. If you want to eat your way to healthy skin, you could do well if you load up on antioxidants. You can find these in fruits, vegetables and certain fish and oils.

Improve your diet by getting more of these on your plate so you get to have a good serving of Vitamin C and E. These are just a few of the nutrients that can help you renew collagen and elastin giving you a plumper look.

Always remember that poor diet can only expose your body to preservatives, hormones, low fiber, and very little nutrition, which can result in several skin issues. Antioxidants can also help your skin avoid inflammatory reactions, which can result in breakouts, and predispose it to early signs of old age.

Starting early

The usual mistakes that teenagers and people in their 20s do are putting off skin care. Skin renewal is much faster before you reach 30, which is why the skin may easily bounce back from whatever stresses you expose it to. This makes a lot of people feel like they can put off proper skin care. Once you reach the big 3-0, skin renewal becomes slower, so you start noticing it becoming dull, dry, as well as showing some fine lines.

Hydrate

I’m not just going to tell you to drink water. You have to remember that having the right amount is also very important. Strive towards drinking at least 6-8 tall glasses of water a day. It s surprising how a lot of people are not able to reach that amount daily.

Hydration doesn’t mean that you can just drink any fluids. Drinking a can of soda wouldn’t really count as healthy, so you have to discipline yourself to go for healthy drinks. You can never go wrong with water, but you can also make things interesting with fruit juices or even take health to another notch by drinking coconut water.

It is reported to be brimming with cytokinins and antioxidants, which can give your skin that glow and clarity.

Protection

We all know how important it is to wear sunscreen before heading out for the beach. But not many are aware that we need SPF protection on a daily basis. Too often we go out and about with just our regular lotions or in some cases none at all, without really giving much attention about how much protection our skin needs. Your scented lotion or your sweatshirt is not enough to keep the harmful UV rays from doing some amount of damage to your skin, even on cloudy days. People undermine this fact a lot, but it actually is one of the factors that slowly contribute to skin damage or premature skin aging.

This does not mean that you have to wear that heavy and sticky sunscreen. There are a lot of products such as face creams, serums and lotions that are formulated with SPF. Invest in these kind of products and you can save years off your face.

Love your pores

Letting your skin breathe is something that a lot of the ladies are often forgetting. Glee star Lea Michele shared her secret to clear skin by giving it a chance to breathe. Makeup may mask impurities, but why do you have to settle with masking what is wrong with your skin when you can actually find a way to be happy in your own skin.

Let your pores breathe. This means that you cleanse your skin, skip makeup for at least a day a week and keep it from being clogged with chemicals, preservatives, irritants, dirt, oil and grime. All these are the culprit that can result in whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. The importance of having clean pores is that you allow it to absorb your skin care products better, thus maximizing their effect.

Try medical aesthetics

You can prevent having your skin bending out of shape too early when you try non-invasive procedures. Medical aesthetic procedures include treatments that can correct skin problems, such as dark spots, acne scars, uneven skin tone, early sagging and fine lines.

Bank on your bones

Did you know that your face shrinks as you grow older? This is because old age can make you lose bone mass, which also include the ones on your face. You can maintain better facial structure by supporting it with calcium supplements. This delays the onset of bone degeneration and loss of bone mass, and it can also prevent your face from looking sagged.
